How to be a Brilliant Community Based Business Adviser

How to be a Brilliant Community Based Business Adviser, a unique and exciting reference guide for new professionals is launched on Thursday 13 November 2008.

Produced by ACBBA, the body developing community based solutions to enterprise development and SFEDI, the government recognised standards setting body for occupational standards in business enterprise and business support, the guide will be launched at the main London office of Herbert Smith LLP, sponsors of the event.

The guide is based around the skills and knowledge needed to achieve professional accreditation and on the practical experience of community based business advisers and their clients. It aims to enhance advisers’ professional development, as a way of ensuring clients get quality support and advice.

The guide:

  • Includes case studies which illustrate what community based business advisers do, how they support their clients and what their clients needs are
  • Offers comprehensive content to develop new advisers’ confidence, capability, competence and knowledge
  • Is packed with analytical tools and checklists to enhance the support advisers provide to clients
  • Deals with problems and opportunities different clients may have, from pre start, through start up, to an existing business

Nigel Spencer, British Library Reference & Research Manager said “When working with ACBBA, I have always been impressed with their professionalism, their enthusiasm and the overall quality of the work they do. It has also been highly evident to me that they are very well respected within the communities with whom they work and have a good understanding of those communities. All of these qualities are reflected in this informative, comprehensive and well-structured guide, which will be a very valuable tool for community-based business advisers.”

Dr Levent Altinay, Reader in Strategic Management, Oxford Brookes University said “This is a comprehensive and timely guide that brings the community representatives and the ethnic minority entrepreneurs together to promote knowledge and expertise in order to regenerate ethnic minority businesses and create a stronger community-based economy. The guide provides a wide range of recommendations on how to gain a competitive edge and sustain it during both the start-up and break-out stages of business development”
